GX Desk Pattern is a totally frivolous use of Apple’s amazing QuickDraw GX technology: it lets you use a QuickDraw GX graphic as your desktop pattern. What’s so wonderful about this? Well, QuickDraw GX has lots of neat capabilities that the Mac’s old Color QuickDraw graphics can’t touch, such as: (1) You’re no longer restricted to rectangular tilings with each side being an exact power of 2. (2) You can superimpose multiple patterns to produce nonrepeating combinations. (3) You can create interesting colour effects where shapes overlap. (4) You can apply rotations, scalings, and funky distortion effects.
